Who is She?

April Nading is The Handstanding Grandma! She started her journey in 2012, when, at the age of 50, she decided to learn how to do a handstand. She had never done a handstand in her life, but she set her mind to an eight year trek of learning to kick up away from the wall. Over a decade later, April is now a yoga instructor, grandma, writer, and motivational speaker. She lives in Southern Indiana with her husband, Aran, and their dog, Riley. Today, along with her handstands and five-minute-planks, she hopes that her motivational words inspire others who are struggling to pursue their passions later in life and find their own personal “handstand.”

“I’m available for handstand/yoga workshops and motivational speaking — including how to dress for personal success.”

“I love helping others on their handstand/goal achieving journeys!”

What She's Done!

April has kicked up in places far and wide, from the Arch statue in St. Louis, Missouri all the way to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. She also boasts an impressive five-minute-plank, a feat she credits to her “Stop thinking, start doing!” mentality.

Apart from her journey to the handstand, April’s other pursuits have made headlines, literally. She is a former news anchor, writer, and appears regularly on WEHT’s ‘Local Lifestyle’ News segments. She has been featured in TV news stories on —  KOKI — Tulsa, OK and WDRB — Louisville, KY; in print publications like Voyage STL Magazine – St. Louis, MO; Evansville Living Magazine – Evansville, IN; and serves as a WNIN-PBS program host – Evansville, IN.

She shares her yoga progress, fashion inspiration, motivational blogs, and traveling handstand diaries on her website – handstandinggrandma.com – as well as on her YouTube Channel and social media for her thousands of followers. She hopes to continue to inspire others by sharing her passions and her story.

What She Says!

April knows what it’s like firsthand to take on a new challenge later in life, and that’s why she speaks to other middle agers, reminding them it’s never too late to try something new. Her goal is to motivate others to find their passion, no matter what age. She wants others to experience that wonderful feeling of accomplishment that she did when she conquered the handstand. It’s Not Too Late!

Just about everyone has something they’ve wanted to do – like becoming more active, changing careers, or learning to do a handstand — but convinced themselves it’s too late in life to do it. This inspiring presentation will help middle agers ignite the passion they’ve been missing and encourage them to take action today – even if it means stepping out of their comfort zone to take on new challenges.

Challenge Accepted!

It may seem like avoiding challenge is the best way to do things, but taking the easy way out can actually be detrimental. Discover how challenging yourself physically leads to growth and opportunity for accomplishments in all aspects of life! This motivating presentation encourages individuals to embrace challenge in order to experience the joyous feeling of accomplishment.

Eliminate excuses!

If we’re not careful, we let excuses hold us back. They may seem reasonable, but excuses are defense mechanisms we use as permission to avoid moving forward. This light-hearted presentation tackles some of the most common excuses used by middle agers and explores opportunities for turning excuses into action plans.

What People are Saying!

You empowered me to try new things…until I find that one thing that excites me as much as handstands excite you!

Her whole story and what she talks about – finding what you need and setting your goals — is inspirational!

– Scott Kerley, Attendee

I think it’s really encouraging to people getting joint replacement who probably think they’re going to be a couch potato after – and you’re just the opposite. Very inspiring!
