I started the Horse Pose challenge for a few reasons: 1. I wanted to get past my loathing of Horse pose; 2. I was hoping to add more definition to my legs; 3. I like the idea of a daily challenge! π
Iβm happy to report that after 30 days of one-minute holds (sometimes two when I realized I forgot to turn on the camera and had to do it again π€¦ββοΈ), my legs are definitely stronger and have more definition! More proof that you donβt have to use weights to build muscle. πͺΒ
I also no longer hate this pose. In fact, I now love it and have a much greater appreciation for it! π
I did a lot of research on Horse pose (even sat through a 15-minute video on YouTube extolling the virtues of the pose π³), and found out that it has huge benefits for everyone, and is a great choice for people over 50 β it improves balance, increases energy levels, and helps with every day activities, like walking, and climbing stairs!πΆββοΈΒ
It was also a reminder that static isometric holds really are a workout ποΈ, and while the focus may be on legs and lower body, Horse pose also strengthens your core and provides a bit of a mood booster! π―
A few other personal takeaways: Stronger legs have made for a stronger handstand π€ΈββοΈ; Iβm able to get my legs up higher in poses like Locust and Bow; standing up from Wheel pose has become easier! π
Now that I know what I know, Iβll keep doing Horse pose βΒ probably not every day, and I wonβt always post about it (that in itself is a lot of work), but with all these great benefits, how could I not? πββοΈ
You can watch my daily Horse posts during the month of April on IG and TikTok!
